Elizabeth Gemmell, Esq.

Elizabeth (Beth) Gemmell is an attorney on the firm’s Engineering and Design Team.

Beth represents companies in software, computer science, business methods, medical devices, and mechanical industries, using her legal experience and education to help established and emerging growth companies develop domestic and international intellectual property portfolios. She also conducts infringement analyses, IP due diligence, freedom to operate opinions, and provides counsel in patent litigation.

With over two decades of experience, Beth counsels clients from innovation to protection and enforcement with a focus on creating, managing, and protecting patent portfolios in the U.S. and abroad. Beth particularly enjoys working with clients to develop a holistic approach that incorporates intellectual property protection into comprehensive business strategies and goals.

Beth has worked with a wide range of clients including start-up, medium, and Fortune 500 companies, universities, and solo inventors. She has drafted over 100 patent applications and prosecuted thousands of applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. As a former patent examiner, she leverages her intimate knowledge of the patent prosecution process to successfully procure patents while also using her extensive patent searching and analysis proficiency in patentability investigations, opinions, post-issuance, and litigation matters.

Having a broad background in the electrical, computer hardware, software, and mechanical technologies, Beth has experience in telecommunication systems (e.g., 3GPP, WCDMA, LTE/LTE-A/4G/5G/6G, VoIP, multimedia broadcast multicast services, encryption/security, error correction, digital signal processing, encoding, etc.), Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems, Internet of things (IOT) devices and systems, enterprise systems, user interfaces, operating systems, and APIs, computer simulation and image processing (e.g., virtual reality, augmented reality, etc.), displays (e.g., LED, LCD, OLED, plasma, etc.), analog/digital circuits, semiconductors, utility grid, power systems, and energy management including alternative energy devices and systems, medical devices, x-ray and gamma-ray systems and devices, optical waveguides, automotive power systems, home appliances (e.g., washers, dryers, induction cooktops, refrigerators, water heaters, dishwashers, etc.), molded static structures, and musical instruments.
